To avoid splitting the frame, type A pintles have been welded on a pintle plate and the plate is then screwed to the door frame. Therefore, the strap must be either bent or offset to align the eye of the strap with the pintle. This form is the weakest of the three alternatives. We do not recommend its use on extra heavy doors or where alignment is critical, as with weather stripping.

Type B consists of a pintle welded to a butt plate which is then attached to the door frame in a half surface position. Because of the half surface position, the plate is removed from view and, more importantly, adds considerable strength. The strap is not offset. It is necessary to know the handing of each door for this type of pintle. As a guide, a right hand door has the pintles mounted on the right side, the left on the left hand side.

Type C pintles are 4" screw hooks which can only be mounted on post and beam construction. The strap is offset.
